09.11.10 - Bensalem, PA - TDBA Rockfest @ TD Bank Amphitheater

Howdy SR fans. Last night we played what turned out to be a very memorable show as the headliners of the TDBA Rockfest at TD Bank Amphitheater. This was the first ever SR performance on September 11, and SR made it one for the record books. The show started out rocking as usual with the Peacemaker, Life Was Never Finer 1-2 combo, and after a quick dedication to the lives lost on 9/11/01 we blasted through a rousing redition of One Day Everyday. The highlight of the night though was no doubt a version on Keeps Us Moving that surely none of us will ever forget, as Tim Doyle (a good friend of mine...this is Dan btw...and a good friend of the band) ran around the stage waving a giant American flag. There will be pictures and video of the epic moment coming to Facebook and YouTube shortly. Upon the conclusion of the American dream based song, the approximate 60+ crowd gave us a rousing ovation that we will personally never forget anytime soon. A great night for all, and a great night to celebrate the memory of those fallen. God Bless America.

This show marks the second show of what plans to be an epic next month or so for the band. Next week we will be at World Cafe in Philly on Friday night supporting our buddies Big Blue Spruce for their CD release. The week after that we will be performing double duty on the 25th as we provide the music for the Jackson PBA's 11th Annual Pig Roast in the afternoon, and then opening up once again for country stars Gloriana at Prospectors in Mount Laurel, NJ.

On October 2 we will be making our first appearance at the Laketon Inn in Lakewood, in preparation for our performance at Wingstock 2010 at First Energy Park in Lakewood on October 16.

07.27.10 - News, Upcoming Gigs, Album of the Day

Hello SR fans. We will be trying to make the Stolen Rhodes blog more of a reality now, with not only set list updates, and SR news; but also with journalistic type contributions. Such as album of the day, and insights on our favorite bands; albums; songs; guitarists; and such. Hope everyone enjoys the new format.

First off let me remind everyone about this Saturday in New York as SR will be hitting the stage at 8:30 at Uncle Mike's in Tribeca. We will be playing with our friends Big Blue Spruce. We also will be playing next Thursday August 5 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philly for Eagles Flight Night. We hope to see everyone there.

ALBUM OF THE DAY:

For this section of the blog we will obviously be highlighting a great album in the history of rock and roll, or funk, or country, or any genre of music that doesn't suck. You should then go listen to this album and enlighten yourself to its awesomeness. The first album up:

Back In Black - AC/DC

30 years ago AC/DC released this landmark hard rock recording. The album was a significant crossroad for the band, as it was their first since the death of original front man Bon Scott and the first with new front man Brian Johnson. The change in front man had no effect on Angus and company as they delivered not only another album of bone crushing guitar riffs, and masterfully crafted pentatonic scale guitar solos. Johnson stepped more than admirably into Scott's humongous shadow and has since created his own aura with the band that has lasted to this very day. The album itself boasts some of AC/DC's greatest work including Hells Bells, You Shook Me All Night Long, the title track, Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution, Shoot to Thrill, and Let Me Put My Love Into You Babe. Angus Young stands out all over the album with some of the most recognizable guitar riffs in rock and roll history, while Phil Rudd and Cliff Williams lay down back to basics rhythm tracks that help the album move along at a fever pitch.

The album itself was wildly successful world wide, as it is the #2 selling album all time only behind Michael Jackson's Thriller; and is the #5 selling album in the United States. The album relaunched the career of AC/DC and the band still enjoys wild success today and sells out stadiums and arenas wherever they tour.

We here at Stolen Rhodes recommend this album to any human being who just needs to hear a kick ass rock and roll album today. They really don't get more kick ass than this one.

Shrine Bar - 04.01.10

Another night for Stolen Rhodes in New York City, and another great show for Stolen Rhodes in New York City. We made our triumphant and victorious return to the Shrine Bar on Thursday, where we played a solid 45-50 minute long set. The Harlem based venue is quickly becoming one of our favorite venues as once again the vibe, energy, and crowd we're outstanding. The show saw a bunch of classics, but a couple of twists to the set. Life Was Never Finer made its first appearance ever as a show opener, and we pulled out a rare cover with the Stevie Wonder classic Superstition. Look for us back at the Shrine on Thursday night May 20.

SR is off this weekend and we would like to wish everyone a Happy Easter or Passover. We will be back on Thursday night at Sweeney's in Northeast Philly for our first show at what we hear is a great venue. Look for us back in New Jersey on the 17th of this month as we play Surf Taco in Jackson. We'll be back in NYC on May 15 for our first appearance at the National Underground.

Also on the 17th of April make sure to check us out at the Blockley Pour House with our friends Big Blue Spruce amongst others as we play a benefit show for Camp Cranium.

Puck Live 03.19.10

Hello all! On Friday the 19th we made our successful return to Puck Live in Doylestown, PA. We along with our friends Big Blue Spruce packed the intimate Doylestown club, and left all fans wanting more including a call for an encore by Stolen Rhodes. Amongst the highlights for the night was a great version of One Day Everyday which seems to be getting better with every show. The setlist also saw the return of the Pearl Jam cover Rearviewmirror, which along with Keeps Us Moving closed out the main set.

Look for Stolen Rhodes this Thursday night at McIntyre's in Toms River, NJ as we play their original music showcase night. We also will be returning to Surf Taco in Jackson on April 17, and on May 1 for their Cinco de Mayo Festival. More info to come on both.

For those of you in New York City you can catch Dan at Hank's Saloon in Brooklyn, NY on Friday night as he plays a set of ZZ Top with the Michelangelo Quirinale Band.

For those of you in Philly, we will be returning there on April 8th at Sweeney's in the Northeast for our debut show at what we have heard is a great venue.

Also in SR news, we were just confirmed once again for the Jackson Township PBA's annual pig roast in Lakewood, NJ. The event will take place this fall on September 25 at Pine Park.

03.06.10 Benefit for Glenn Williscroft at Lakewood Elks

We had the pleasure to take part in a great celebration for Lakewood, New Jersey resident Glenn Williscroft. Much of the town Lakewood was out to support Glenn--who has been stricken with cancer--at the Lakewood Elks on Saturday afternoon. It was great to see much of the town out at the Elks supporting a long time resident. The event held a real special place for Dan and Matt as they grew up in Lakewood and the celebration gave them an opportunity to see many people they hadn't seen in a long time. It was even more special for Matt as he actually learned that his second cousin is married to Glenn (there are many Pillion's and Pillion related folk in Lakewood...too many to count).

The band had a couple of special guests as Matt's Dad (and Glenn's cousin once removed) joined the guys on backing vocals and played drums on an on-the-fly rendition of Sloop John B with the Irish Piping duo the Skyelanders, and Dan & Matt on vocals. There was food, drink, rock and roll, dancing, and good times all around. We in SR were very happy, honored, pleased, pleasured to headline such a great benefit show, that so many folks enjoyed.

We'll be taking a short two week break from gigging as Kevin will be heading down to Florida for the week to enjoy some rest and relaxation at Disney and at some Phillies ST games. Meanwhile back in NJ/PA Dan, Matt, and Ian will be continuing to write and rehearse, and continue with pre-production on SR's forthcoming album.

We'll be back in action on Friday March 19 in Doylestown, PA for our return to Puck Live. Look for a live recording of that show on your local web trade websites (along with a recording from our last show at the Stone Pony). We'll be sharing the stage with a Big Blue Spruce; whom you will be sure to enjoy if you like SR.

We'll be back at the Jersey Shore on Thursday March 25 as we play Original Music Night at McIntyre's in Toms River. Other bands to be announced.
