Stone Pony 02.19.10 w/ Black 47

What a great night Friday was at the legendary Stone Pony in Asbury Park. Stolen Rhodes was proud and honored to have the opportunity to open up for Bronx based Irish rock legends Black 47. Stolen Rhodes was the second band to perform Friday night and they pulled no punches with a 40 minute balls to the wall opening set that saw Peacemaker find its way back to opener status, and saw the band blaze right through their first four songs of the night like an out of control freight train.

Friday was also big as SR brought in a film crew to record the entire show as part of a larger documentary being put together by band friend Rich Adragna. The band was on and energetic (despite Dan being sick as all hell) and clips from the show will be available shortly, along with documentary clips.

By the end of the show the crowd was chanting "one more song" though in tasteful form the band did not encore (unwritten rule: opening bands never encore).

Set List
Peacemaker
Life Was Never Finer
Spirit in the Night (B. Springsteen)
One Day Everyday
Idle Ways
Falling off the Edge
Keeps Us Moving

About an hour and a half later the headliners Black 47 took the stage, and what a performance they put on. There was energy, there was dancing, there was some sort of bagpipe looking instrument, there was funky bass solos...what a show. What a great band. We were just pleased and honored to be able to play with them that night, and everyone involved had a great time.

For those of you in the Philly area, come see us at Milkboy Live! this Saturday. Tickets can be bought in advance at this link http://www.milkboycoffee.com/events/view_entry.php?id=1440&date=20100227 for $8 or for $10 at the door.

Kenny's Castaways 01.30.10

Hey everyone,

We'd like to thank everyone who came out to Kenny's Castaways on Saturday night for our first show in NYC of 2010. Saturday's night set was quite energetic from the band. We switched up things a little, with Faded Pictures making its first appearance as a show opener. The energy didn't dull until the fifth song in as we followed Faded Pictures with Life Was Never Finer, Spirit in the Night, and One Day Everyday all in succession. Peacemaker also remained towards the end of the set, a place where it is likely to stay for a while. By the end of the set a nice crowd had gathered towards the front of Kenny's as the people there for the other bands were singing along to the chorus of Keeps Us Moving. As of now we won't be back in NYC until March 3 when we will be playing at the Shrine Bar in Harlem. As always follow us at FB, Myspace, and Twitter for updates. Also www.stolenrhodes.com will be launching soon, as Matt is building the website as we speak.

Also if anyone would like advance tickets for our February 19 show at the Stone Pony with Black 47, or advance tickets for our February 27 show at Milkboy Live please contact Dan, Kevin, Matt, or Ian. We hope to see everyone there.

In other SR news, Dan did a little moonlighting this weekend, as he performed with old college buddy and avid SR fan Michelangelo Quirinale and his band for the Brooklyn Guitar School's student showcase. The group performed a set of Led Zeppelin tunes including Whole Lotta Love, Houses of the Holy, No Quarter, Achilles Last Stand, and Kashmir. For more information on our friends at Brooklyn Guitar School please visit them at www.facebook.com/brooklynguitarschool.

We'll be playing at the Nail in Ardmore, PA this Friday. Hope to see you there.

01.22.10 Mad Hatter (Sea Bright) & 01.23.10 Surf Taco (Jackson)

Hey all and welcome to the first ever Stolen Rhodes blog. We hope you enjoy.

We had a great weekend playing on the Jersey Shore. Friday night we we're up in Monmouth County at Mad Hatters in Sea Bright. We played three sets, with a two song encore. This was our first show at Mad Hatters; a watering hole for the locals of Northern Monmouth County. We opened with a blistering 1-2 combo of One Day Everyday into the Springsteen classic Spirit in the Night (an opening combo that has taken the place of the Peacemaker/Life Was Never Finer combo that dominated our set list during the summer and fall of '09). Peacemaker was moved to the end of the set for the first time kicking off the encore along with Keeps Us Moving. Other highlights from the show included a blistering rendition of the Tom Petty classic Mary Jane's Last Dance; which has expanded into a 6 or so minute long jam with guitar solos by Kevin and Matt. We also premiered our newest song, End of Alone; which the band agreed was one of the best songs played that night.

Keeps Us Moving

Saturday night we were back at Surf Taco in Jackson. The band played an epic 24 song; 3 hour marathon set with no breaks except for a drum set change as Matt's father Eddie Pillion came up and jammed on a blistering Up On Cripple Creek with us. The band also threw a "quiet" number into the set as Dan and Matt played a two guitar version of the Springsteen classic Atlantic City. Highlights of the night included a very solid and soulful Beautiful Way that involved Dan going into the crowd and fraternizing with a couple fans; a great version of the Stevie Wonder classic Superstition (complete with Dan's bass solo...and Dan's hair); and rousing rendition of Keeps Us Moving to close the night, with the SR Lovely Ladies on stage singing along.
